Stone Huts at Heatherlie Quarry in the Grampians National Park
Grampians National Park

Panorama of historic stone huts built by Italian stonemasons at the Heatherlie Quarry, Grampians National Park, Victoria, Australia. Heatherlie Quarry was a sandstone quarry which yielded large amounts of stone for public buildings in Melbourne, examples are Parliament House and Town Hall. After a fire in Stawell, many buildings in the Main Street were re-build using stone from this quarry. The Heatherlie Quarry opened in the 1870s and closed in 1893 after the Public Works contract expired, it was briefly reopened by a private firm but closed again in 1938.
