Widcombe Manor has got some fascinating stories. It was the setting for a popular early 20th Century Family Saga, The Golden House written by Horace Annesley Vachell in 1937.

Local entrepeneur, Jeremy Fry started his highly successful engineering company, Rotork, here. James 'vacuum cleaner' Dyson was an early employee and tested his inventions in the house and grounds. In the Swinging Sixties, Jeremy held wild parties here. Princess Margaret and Tony Armstrong Jones were frequent guests.
