360 panorama Ельский район располагается на юге Гомельской области и занимает площадь в 1,4 тыс.кв.км. Граничит с Мозырским, Лельчицким, Наровлянским районами Гомельской области и Украиной. Создан 17 июля 1924 г. под названием Королинский район в составе Мозырьской округи. 8 января 1954 г. вошел в Гомельскую область. В район входят 66 сельских населенных пункта. Административно делится на 9 сельсоветов. Население района 18.5 тыс.чел. Районный центр - город Ельск с населением 9.8 тыс.чел. Расположен в 177 км на юго-запад от Гомеля.

История развития г.Ельск:

Впервые в письменных источниках упоминается в 16 в. как местечко в Мозырском повете Великого княжества Литовского, принадлежавшее Спадам, Аскеркам, Сулистровским. Старинный французский род Спадов был вынужден эмигрировать из Франции в связи с религиозными гонениями. После Люблинской унии (1569 г.) местечко было в составе Речи Посполитой, после второго раздела Речи Посполитой (1793 г.) Ельск - местечко Михалковской волости Мозырского уезда Минской губернии Российской империи. У Ельска были и другие названия. Некоторое время он был известен как Королин, затем как Николаев, но 26 сентября 1917 года местечку было возвращено исконное название - Ельск в связи с тем, что название Николаев также как и Королин не прижилось среди населения этого полесского уголка. Со строительством в 1873 году железной дороги Жлобин-Овруч Ельск стал железнодорожной станцией. С 1931 года Ельск стал центром Ельского района; получил в 1971 году статус города.

The history of the development Elsk:
