Languedoc-Roussillon
Montpellier est la huitième commune de France par sa population intra-muros et également la plus peuplée du Languedoc-Roussillon et de l'Hérault. Elle compte 257 351 habitants au recensement de 2010 et son agglomération 387 155 habitants4 en 2009, dans la nouvelle délimitation de 2010. L'agglomération de Montpellier (unité urbaine au sens de l'Insee) est ainsi la quinzième du pays. La communauté d'agglomération de Montpellier comptait, quant à elle, 413 187 habitants en 2009, selon les chiffres de l'Insee5. Montpellier est au centre d'une aire urbaine de 542 867 habitants6, ce qui montre son influence sur le territoire : elle se classe ainsi au quinzième rang national.

Languedoc-Roussillon is a French region which is composed of five departments. It is bounded by Spain, Andorra in the south and along the Mediterranean Sea (Gulf of Lions). Other French region limit the regions of Languedoc-Roussillon: Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, Rhone-Alpes, Auvergne, Midi-Pyrenees. The natural boundaries are the Pyrenees and the so-called threshold Lauragais, the Cévennes and the Rhône.In 2004, the Regional Council chose a joint new logo symbolizes the sun, which has the motto: "Living in Septimania.
