Yapiliin Yapilikaya Silifke Vr Mersin 39b
Turkey
To reach this site, we need to turn to east after continuing about 3-3.5 km northwards from the Adamkayalar Junction in Silifke District, Mersin, and keep on the dirt path in the field. After walking for about 12-15 minutes along this path surrounded by several columns and sarcophagus lids, we arrive in a valley. Here, there stands a three-storey cave-temple that was created by adding polygonal stonewalls to the natural cave. There are two reliefs on either side of the gate and an inscription on the top. The inscription indicates that the temple was built by the priest of Hemokrates who served in this temple in the name of Hermes. Reliefs of other six people who were also priests were carved on different composition panels. The cave-temple, which is dated to the 2nd century BC, is quite difficult to access.
