Place de la Libération au coucher du soleil (Dijon)

Place Royale jusqu'à la Révolution de 1789, place d'Armes, place du Maréchal Pétain sous l'Occupation, la place de la Libération actuelle fait face à l'Hôtel de Ville. Dessinée par Jules Hardouin-Mansart, architecte ordinaire de Louis XIV, cette place en hémicycle est le chef-d'oeuvre de l'architecture classique du XVIIème siècle à Dijon. C'est également le centre historique de l'antique Divio, la ville gallo-romaine comprise dans le Castrum du IIIème siècle



La place de la Libération est la place centrale du centre historique de Dijon1. Elle est en forme d'hémicycle et s'ouvre sur le palais des ducs de Bourgogne, où elle a été pensée pour sublimer le pouvoir du roi, en particulier celui de Louis XIV, pour qui une statue équestre a été érigée sur cette place publique.
