It was here in the vicinity of this square that the francs that came with Conde D.Henrique. Count D.Henrique had here to build a chapel, dedicated to Santiago, built in the place where according to an ancient tradition, would exist a Roman temple dedicated to Ceres, and that the apostle in his passage through the Iberian Peninsula would have left an image of Our Lady.
