Antique City Of Nagidos Bozyazi Vr Mersin 239
Turkey
It is the antique settlement of the modern Bozyazı District, Mersin. It is 10 km to the east of Anemurium. The acropolis of the ancient settlement is located on top of Paşabeleni Hill, while the necropolis area is on the outskirts of the same hill. Silver coins of Pharnabazus were revealed in Nagidos. This indicates that the city was quite powerful in economic terms at the end of the 5th century BC and during the 4th century BC. The acropolis on top of Paşabeleni Hill is surrounded by fortification walls that are thought to have been built in different periods. While the settlement expanded within the walls, the southern slopes of the hill was used for agricultural purposes. The outskirts of the hill and the area where the modern settlement of Bozyazı District was founded were used as the necropolis. The most important finding that shed light in the history of the Antique City of Nagidos is now exhibited in Mersin Museum and it is dated to 238 BC.
