Villanueva, Guajira (Officially, Santo Tomas de Villanueva) is a Colombian municipality founded on January 16, 1662 by Spanish Don Roque de Albaque. It is located south of the department of La Guajira. Its county seat is located in the foothills of the Perijá.
Its population is concentrated especially in the urban area (although most activity is centered on agriculture and livestock).
Villanueva is located in the center of the corridor covering the southern folk of La Guajira and Cesar northern sites where natural abundances are linked to rivers from the Perijá, most of which give rise to cold water spas and crystalline in summer and landscapes that attract locals and foreigners, and we can mention among others hidden Castle, just 15 minutes from the urban area. We also have a festival of national stature and recognition is the Cradle of Accordions Festival.
The Cradle of Accordions Festival is the greatest cultural event of the municipality of Villanueva (La Guajira), and second largest in the vallenato music after the Vallenato Legend Festival, which takes place in Valledupar, this festival has been held since 1979, each year in September, except for the years 2010,2011,2012, held in the month of Junio.Se place in the main square of the town.
Coming this international quality festival will be conducted in the main square of the town to perform at The Cradle of Accordions park, which is being built on the former IDEMA, on the left bank of the river villanueva.
