Coimbra, Convent of Santa Cruz, Chapter Room
Portugal

The chapter room is from the time of D. Manuel and prior D. Pedro Gavião (1507-16), and occupies the space left by the roman chapter room. The project is by Master Boytac, and follows the same style as the nave, with high ceilings and ribbed vaults. The walls are covered with 1582 tile. The southern triumphal arch of the chapel dedicated to S. Teotónio is at the top. The tomb of S. Teotónio, who died in 1162, remained here until 1508. He was in the chapel of the Crucifix until 1530, returning here renewed.
