Via Latina it is called the elegant colonnade erected on the roof of the 16th century palace, at the time of the rectorate of D. Francisco de Lemos, at the end of the 18th century. In the middle, a body of apparatus stands out from the general line of the front, accessed by a noble staircase. It is formed by three high arches that support a triangular pediment with the national coat of arms, over which an allegorical figure from the University rises. This body includes a sculptural ensemble executed by Claude Laprade in 1701, in which one can admire the sculpted image of D. Jose I, already left by the hands of another artist, when the remodeling of Via Latina, at the time of the Pombaline Reformation. Two Atlanteans support a curved pediment and, at the base, can be seen two graceful female figures evoking Justice and the Fortress.
