Moulins Faugères
Languedoc-Roussillon

Faugères is a town in southern France, about 70 kilometers away from Montpellier. The village is located in the arrondissement of Béziers Hérault, Languedoc-Roussillon region. Faugères The community has 429 inhabitants (2006) in an area of 2401 hectares and is situated 250 meters high.


The place is named after one of the most famous wine-growing regions of southern France. It is located 19 kilometers south of Bédarieux on the road and railway line to Béziers. It is popular as a tourist destination especially in English.

Faugères was already settled in Roman times. The remains of six Roman villas have been preserved. In Visigothic time here was a chapel. Canonically Faugères belonged to the nearby Roman Catholic Diocese of Lodève. In the 8th Century, the region suffered under attacks of the Saracens. 934 The first mention is as a "villa", in 1084 a castle was built here, is named after the famous vineyard "Châteaux de Faugères". Languedoc-Roussillon is a French region which is composed of five departments. It is bounded by Spain, Andorra in the south and along the Mediterranean Sea (Gulf of Lions).
