Pantanassa Mystras

Pantanassa

In 1428, the Protostrator (high court official) loannis Phrangopoulos built a masterful synthesis, copying the Hodegetria's architectural type, and borrowing from Gothic art for its decoration (in the sanctuary apses), while its painting represents a synthesis of that in the Hodegetria and Peribleptos. The ground-floor frescos date to the I7th-I8th c.
