Rysumer Church

The church was built of brick and tufa Dutch, the tuff material likely derived from a previous building. The building has included tower to a length of 35.4 meters and a height of 10.1 meters. Your masonry consists mainly of tuff, about predominantly of brick to a height of 4.5 meters.

The oldest still preserved part is the whole built of brick tower, which was built in the 13th century and 1585. fundamentally renewed. It has in its interior a box choir dating from around 1270, which is of particular importance to art history. The nave of the tower by a wide round arch is connected.

The nave was west cultivated in the 15th century in the Gothic style to the tower through which the building is entered since then. The west gable is divided by three ogival blind niches, under it there is the walled West Portal. The nave has on its north and south sides of three large pointed arch windows, which were previously provided with brick means rods. The one small window is attached to the north and south close before the eastern end of the vessel, it is called Hagioskope.

The church interior is dominated by the rectangular hall of the nave. It is closed at the top with a wooden ceiling mirror, which passes to the west above the organ loft in a wooden barrel.

By structuring the choir walls in three groups of windows with columns of the church cologne-Rhine Building Culture is assigned to that held Münster way into Krummhörn and neighboring Groningerland over the diocese

The Rysum organ was probably built in 1457 and is considered one of the oldest playable organs worldwide.
