The Bridge over Drina in winter, Visegrad
Bosnia and Herzegovina

The panorama has been taken on the first day of the New year. The Bridge over Drina river has become popular after a book of the Yugolsav writer Ivo Andrich and his novel that won the Nobel prize for literature. The bridge is completed in 1577 AD by the Ottoman court architect Mimar Sinan on the order of the Grand Vizier Mehmed Paša Sokolović during the Ottoman period. It is included in the UNESCO World heritage list. The 179.5 meter long bridge numbers 11 masonry arches. During the 1992–95 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the bridge was a place of the brutal killing of a large number of Bosniak civilians by the Serb nationalists during the Višegrad massacre in 1992.
