White House Overlook, Canyon de Chelly National Monument
Arizona
This panorama was taken at the White House Overlook on the south rim of Canyon de Chelly National Monument on a spring afternoon. The overlook is named for the remains of a cliff dwelling and adjacent ground level pueblo that can be seen across the canyon. Although the Navajo have lived long in Canyon de Chelly, these structures were constructed over 800 years ago by their predecessors in the canyon, the Ancestral Puebloan people. A trail from the overlook descends 600 feet to the canyon floor and allows the energetic to inspect this ancient village from a closer vantage point.
