The Atlantes of Tula are four massive anthropomorphic sculptures from the Toltec culture, standing atop Pyramid B in the Tula archaeological site in Hidalgo, Mexico. Carved from basalt and reaching approximately 15 feet in height, these figures represent high-ranking warriors outfitted with butterfly-shaped breastplates, spears, and spear-throwers (atlatls). Originally, these stone giants served both a structural and symbolic purpose as columns supporting the roof of the upper temple, embodying the military and religious might of a civilization that profoundly influenced all of Mesoamerica.
