46th and Market
Philadelphia

46th Street is the Easternmost station on the elevated section of the Market Street Subway/Elevated Line in West Philadelphia.  Rebuilt between 1999 and 2009, the new Market Street El is far less gloomy underneath than the old one was.

The little building on South 46th Street with the satellite dish on top is the former WFIL TV studio where the iconic '50s teen-dance show American Bandstand was taped.

The grand Greco-Roman-Georgian building on North 46th Street is the long abandoned 1928 headquarters of the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company of Philadelphia.

That's right, North 46th Street is a block West of South 46th Street -- not an uncommon situation in the Philadlephia area.
