The Hakataramea Valley is in the South Canterbury high country (South Island, New Zealand)and runs from Mackenzie Country in the North through to Kurow in the south. This is about 10km north of Cattle Creek, and about as far as I got the day I went up there. There was a sign saying the road was closed a few hundred metres up the road.
