On 24 november 1973 a military version of the Douglas DC3 Dakota (a C47 Skymaster) ran out of fuel and made an emergency landing on the beach at the South coast of Iceland near Sólheimasandur.

This is a view of what is left of the cockpit

All crewmembers survived
