Milan: Abbey (Abbazia) of Chiaravalle - Front court
Milan

The "Abbazia di Chiaravalle", the Chiaravalle Abbey, is the most important monument in the suburbs of Milan: not far from the crowded city but in a farming and still quiet area. Founded 1135 by Bernard de Clairvaux (hence the Italian name Chiaravalle, Clear Valley), this Cistercian Abbey with its Monastry was completed in 1221 but further improvements have been added during the centuries. Very beautiful is the clock tower (not visible in this 360 photo). In particular the facade shows in the lower part a baroque entrance (17th century) while in the upper part there is a typical medieval front.
