Heatherlie Quarry Tramway Grampians National Park
Grampians National Park

Remains of the historic tramway at Heatherlie Quarry, Grampians National Park, Victoria, Australia. Many great buildings in Stawell and Melbourne were built from sandstone quarried at Heatherlie Quarry on Mount Zero Road in the Grampians National Park. The tramway was built in the late 1880s to transport stone and workers to Stawell. In 1949 the tramway line was closed and subsequently dismantled. In 1888 the township of Heatherlie was surveyed but only few blocks were sold. The historic site is open to visitors to view a number of old stone huts, remains of the tramline, the rock face of the quarry and a walking path along the roads that were planned for Heatherlie.
