The Green Lagoon is one of the most famous touristic attraction in the Parque Estadual do Morro do Diabo (Devil's Hill State Park in English). Actually the lagoon's water is not green, but the presence of azzolla acquatic plants turns the water with green colour.
The park is located near Teodoro Sampaio Town, inland São Paulo state by the border with Paraná state, and there are many versions about the name origens of the hill, one of then says that during the Bandeirantes (pioneers discoverers), a great expedition arrived in the region of the hill e had atacked indian villages. In retaliation, the indians had killed all of the bandeirantes and had put the bodies on top of the hill. When a rescue expedition had arrived they had found no signs of the indians, but only the dead bodies and they had credited the action as samething done by the devil itself.
Today the park is an important ecotouristic place, with trekking trails heading to the top of the hill, as well as a natural history small museum.
