Vantage point of the dry lake bed of Soda Lake in Carrizo Plain National Monument, California.  This lake bed is comprised of halite and trona, two evaporate minerals that give off a distinct crusty white color of the lake bottom.  The Carizzo Plain itself is the long valley the lake it situated in.  Across the way lies the San Andreas Fault.
