指南宮位於猴山坑上海拔二百三十公尺，創建於清光緒年間。由淡水知縣王彬林自山西永樂宮分靈來臺。原為茅草建構，歷經前賢精心擘畫設計、重修擴建，成為現在的規模。

宮殿園區佔地廣達數十公頃，古木參天，濃蔭蔽日。全宮共有純陽寶殿、凌霄寶殿、大雄寶殿及大成寶殿四大殿宇。主殿均是依山而建，宏偉莊嚴，建築多採堅固青斗石，部分殿宇並用銅瓦覆蓋，可歷千年。

指南宮前後約有一兩千棵櫻花，集中在凌霄寶殿到南天門之間的山谷，還有大雄寶殿後面小山上，花姿清秀。櫻花季，也是香客祈福旺季。
