Night view from near Siskiyou Pass, Oregon facing traffic on Interstate 5 south towards California. The Milky Way was quite clear overhead though lights of the Rogue Valley were prominent to the north & a few high wisps of clouds were streaming across leading to minor obstructions. I think I have reached the limitations of my camera w/ easy night time shooting. Upon standing here my red flashlight greeted me to two large eyes down the ravine staring at me, but it was only a fox.
I'm not too acclimated w/ identifying the night sky, but have annotated features that stood out in my panorama as well as their parent constellations, so any expert in astronomy knows I probably missed something important. Many stars, the Andromeda & Triangulum Galaxies, the Hercules globular star cluster, & other Messier objects stood out. While Interstate 5 is known for its high volume of traffic, especially in Southern California where the lights of vehicles can be seen from space, this area into Northern California has more of the freedom of darkness.

The planet Earth has proven to be too limiting for our awesome community of panorama photographers. We're getting an increasing number of submissions that depict locations either not on Earth (like Mars, the Moon, and Outer Space in general) or do not realistically represent a geographic location on Earth (either because they have too many special effects or are computer generated) and hence don't strictly qualify for our Panoramic World project.But many of these panoramas are extremely beautiful or popular of both.So, in order to accommodate our esteemed photographers and the huge audience that they attract to 360Cities with their panoramas, we've created a new section (we call it an "area") called "Out of this World" for panoramas like these.Don't let the fact that these panoramas are being placed at the Earth's South Pole fool you - we had to put them somewhere in order not to interfere with our Panoramic World.Welcome aboard on a journey "Out of this World".
