士林世居的住民大多來自於福建漳州府的漳州人，來此地的漳州人感念開漳聖王恩澤，於清乾隆16年籌劃立廟於芝山岩，原為國家第二級古蹟。入口的大牌樓建於民國六十八年，是芝山岩惠濟宮上下山的主要門戶。
