竹寮取水站原稱打狗水道唧筒室，1913年完工啟用，是台灣衛生水道設施的歷史遺產，也是台灣南部高雄地區最早的自來水設施。竹寮取水站外型為仿古典文藝復興時期哥德式建築，至今機房仍持續運轉中，結合坪頂淨水廠與打狗給水站，為20世紀初期打狗港街的民生與公共用水來源之一，並於1998公告為市定古蹟。
