Campocatino in Garfagnana, Lucca - Italy
Tuscany

Campocatino, close to Monte Roccandagia, is an ancient pasture for shepherds and one of the best known places in the entire Garfagnana.

We reached it with a short trek on the CAI 177 path from the village of Vagli di Sopra.
Campocatino occupies an ancient glacial basin, the large lawn is surrounded by numerous stone houses called "caselli"; we are 1000 meters above sea level.
Continuing on path 177 you reach the top of Mount Tambura, while taking the cai path 147 you reach the hermitage of San Viano, a particular construction in the middle of a vertical rocky wall.
In Campocatino, a valley that looks like a fairy tale, the film "Il mio west" by Giovanni Veronesi was shot with Leonardo Pieraccioni, Harvey Keitel, David Bowie and Alessia Marcuzzi.
