文笔塔位于红梅公园东南端，始建于南朝齐高祖萧道成建元年间（479-482），至今有1000余年，历经沧桑、几度兴废，该塔高48.38米，底层外径9.58米，塔身为砖木结构，七级八面，每层有拱门，塔内有旋梯环绕而上，曾经为常州登高远眺之最佳处。文笔塔与红梅公园溶于一体，塔园内古迹众多，笔架山、文笔楼、文笔夕照、砚池、塔碑、知音坊、季子亭、塔影桥、红梅阁…。近年，市府将红梅公园和文笔塔修葺一新，免费向市民开放。
