St. Mauritiuskirche 1
Gornergrat, Matterhorn, Zermatt

The parish church of St. Mauritius dates back to the early 20th century and was consecrated on June 6, 1916. The church was designed by Adolf Gaudy de Rorschach and was last renovated in 1980. The initially small church already existed on the site of the current church in 1285, having been repeatedly expanded, renovated and modified over the decades. In 1913, due to lack of space, it was decided to demolish the old church and build a new one, St. Mauritius.

The church of St. Mauritius is located in the Englischer Viertel, next to the Gemeide of Zermatt, Switzerland. Behind the church, where this panorama was photographed and which is worth visiting, are the graves of unknown and identified climbers who died while climbing the Materhorn, probably the most famous mountain in the world. A well-deserved tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives trying to conquer the Matterhorn, one of the most difficult climbs in the Alps.
