Riga Christ's Birth Orthodox Cathedral (former Planetarium)
Riga

Pareizticīgo Kristus dzimšanas Rīgas katedrāle, bij. Planetārijs.

Celta no 1876-1884. gadam. No 1964.-1990. gadam šajā ēkā atradās "Zinību nams" un planetārijs, kā arī kafejnīca "Dieva auss".

Rīga, Latvija.

The cathedral offers you something different than the above-mentioned churches; built in a Russian Byzantine style in 1876-1884, the cathedral has huge onion-shaped spires, which was made to remind the individual how small they really are in front of God. Being constantly busy with visitors, the cathedral has a tight schedule of different events. Women should preferably wear a skirt/dress when entering or can even rent one from the cathedral.During the Soviet period nearly thirty years was in Cathedral Planetarium.
Riga, Latvia.

More About Riga

Originated from a small fishermen village, for centuries Riga has been an important part of the trade chain between Russia and Western Europe. A lively crossroad of cultures and backgrounds for over 800 years, the historical centre of Riga has accumulated an impressive cultural baggage and today is justly included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
