Aerial view of the Lake of Pontecosi

The dam that originates the Pontecosi lake was built in 1925 and is 33 meters high with a capacity of about three million cubic meters of water. The lake is shallow and not suitable for swimming; there are coots, wild ducks of various species and gray herons. Lake Pontecosi is located on two different municipalities: on one side the municipality of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and on the other that of Pieve Fosciana.
