Istria

Bale, Croatia, on the square between the town hall and the white Palazzo Sorardo-Bembo. Bale is a small town with about 1300 inhabitants. A cooperative of the inhabitants saved the historic buildings from collapsing and restored many of them. The history goes back to Roman times with a few remains. The center is full of of medieval buildings and narrow paths. Officially the people speak two languages, Croatian and Italian. Also Bale is one of the places where the people speak Istriotic, a language which is endangered to be extinct.
