Fossil-Bearing Strata at Cueva del Indio
Colombia
Inside the Cueva del Indio at Parque Nacional Natural Cueva de los Guácharos, the vertical rock walls display well-defined sedimentary layers. These strata contain numerous fossilized crustaceans, preserved as part of the compacted marine sediments that formed during the region’s geological history. The exposure provides clear evidence of stratification processes and fossil deposition, illustrating the transition from ancient marine environments to the current Andean landscape.
