Heddal Stave Church - Notodden - Telemark
Norway

Heddal Stave Church is located in Notodden, Telemark, Norway, and is the largest stave church in the country. It was originally built in the early 13th century, around 1200, using traditional wooden stave construction. The church features intricate wooden carvings and dragon-head motifs on the roof ridges. Its architecture combines Christian symbolism with elements of Norse pagan tradition. The interior is decorated with medieval paintings and altar pieces. The building is constructed entirely of pine wood without the use of nails. Heddal Stave Church has been restored multiple times to preserve its original structure.t stands as an iconic example of Norway’s medieval wooden architecture and cultural heritage.
