Established in 1999, Laman Padi was created to preserve and showcase the traditional rice-farming culture that has been the backbone of the Malay community for centuries. While Langkawi is now famous for its beaches and duty-free shopping, it was originally a land of farmers and fishermen. The "Rice Garden," as it is often called, offers a serene counterpoint to the nearby bustle of Pantai Cenang.
The museum within the complex serves as a living chronicle of the hard work and spiritual significance attached to rice farming in Malaysia. Visitors can walk through the history of "Padi," from the ancient tools used for harvesting to the traditional rituals performed to ensure a bountiful crop. It is a place where the island’s agricultural soul is kept alive, teaching new generations about the delicate balance between the land, the water, and the grain that sustains them.
