View from inside the abandoned Edificio 8 (Building 8) in the Fort Amador neighborhood of Panamá City, Panamá. This building was a former residence of Panamanian dictator & military officer Manuel Noriega. He was a de facto ruler of Panamá from 1983 to 1989 & never officially served as president of Panamá, instead ruling as an unelected military dictator through puppet presidents. Amassing a personal fortune through drug trafficking operations by the Panamanian military, Noriega had longstanding ties with American intelligence agencies before the U.S. invasion of Panamá removed him from power in 1989-1990. On July 10, 1992, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison - he died on May 29, 2017 at age 83.
Today the building has easy public access, concrete beams, & plenty of graffiti w/ invasive trumpet trees (Cecropia peltata). Across the street one can view of the mausoleum of Omar Torrijos who facilitated the transfer of the Panama Canal from the United States back to Panamá.
