Softa Fortress Bozyazi Vr Mersin 58e
Turkey
It is located on top of a hill overlooking the whole are, in the northwest after passing through downtown Bozyazı District, Mersin. The oval shaped fortification walls are relatively well preserved. It is mentioned as “Syce” or “Sycae” in Roman sources. The double-tier grave sample on the southern slope of the hill is similar to the ones in the Antique City of Anemurium. The roof cover of the structure is vaulted, but mostly collapsed. It is thought that the structure whose walls are standing right now just by the gate of the fortress was a mosque, and the building reached through an access ramp was the palace. There is also a small public bath dating back to the Late Roman Period built near the fortification walls. Apart from these, there are numerous plaster-coated cisterns that were used during the Roman and Byzantine Periods. The place was settled during the rule of Karamanid Dynasty for the last time.
