Farley Hill ruins (in color)
Caribbean

Located 900 feet above sea level, these are the ruins of Farley Hill Great House. The house is situated on 17 acres of the Farley Hill National Park. Built in 1818, the house was the most imposing manor in Barbados for decades. Serving as residence primarily for the Briggs and later the Howell families, this property has been visited by dignitaries and royalty. It finally fell into ruins in the early 1900's. An attempt was made to restore the manor in 1956, only to burn down a few years later. In 1965 the government decided to preserve the ruins and proceeded to create the park.
