The most famous chalk cliffs of Rügen are located to the northeast of Sassnitz, within the National Parc Jasmund. These cliffs do suffer from erosion. Sassnitz is a seaside resort and port on Rügen. Sassnitz was the first seaside resort on Rügen. Theodor Fontane, the famous German Poet wrote: “To travel to Rügen is to travel to Sassnitz.”
