Gunung Reng is steeped in a dark and famous local legend involving the ancient village of Kampung Tok Rakoh. According to folklore, the villagers were once celebrating a wedding feast and decided to entertain themselves by organizing a fight between a dog and a cat. As the villagers laughed at the animal cruelty, a sudden and divine punishment occurred. A massive storm broke out, and a mountain was supposedly "lifted and dropped" upside down onto the village, instantly burying it and its inhabitants. Local residents believe the mountain originated from a different location in the interior of Kelantan. Today, the site serves as a popular recreational park, and the caves within the mountain are said to contain rock formations that resemble household items, further fueling the legend of the buried village.
