Houjin River has a total length of 13 kilometers and a total drainage area of 73.45 square kilometers. It flows through Nanzi, Renwu, Dashe and other districts. The government started to dredge it in 2002 and to build bike and walking paths beside it. Trees and flowers planted included Luan trees, Terminalia trees, and assorted lantana, satinwoods, lantana and orchids. The outcome was a beautiful ecological corridor that connects the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park, Kaohsiung University, Yuanzhong Harbor Wetland Park, etc., and a green recreational area for local residents to take a walk, go jogging, bike riding, sightseeing and other activities during holidays.
