Zeppelin and Garrison Museum Toender 2
Dänemark
Toender housed one of the great airship bases of the German empire in the period 1914-1818. The base was located a few kilometers north of the city and was almost a self-sufficient little town with its own gas, water and heating plant. On July 19, 1918, Toender entered the world history when the Zeppelin base was exposed to the first air attack made by a hangar ship. Both the English pilots' report and the remains of the bombs can be seen at the museum. The attack put an end to Zeppelin operations from Toender, but after the reunification with Denmark in 1920, the Danish military moved into the area. The Zeppelin & Garnisons Museum Toender was opened on May 8, 1999 and is located in close proximity to the old base area. The museum houses a large collection of photographs and items from the period. Among other things. original propellers from the giant airships, as well as uniforms and weapons. The purpose of the museum is to collect, preserve, exhibit and convey the military history in Tønder from 1914 to 2002. http://www.zeppelin-museum.dk/main.php?lang=dk&page=home
