Vernon Mine - lower adit [2]
California

The Vernon Mine is a gold mine north of Yreka, California.  I have not been able to find much information on this long abandoned mine.  This was taken at the portal which has some collapsed beams as well as a partial entrance cave-in.  The lower adit crosscut goes in for about 1,000 feet before reaching a dead end w/o reaching any quartz vein.  There are a couple branching splits including one leading to a minor stope.  As you zoom in to the interior of the tunnel one can see the white cloudiness of an actual ghost.  Hah, well actually that is just a convergence of the outside cold air meeting w/ the interior stagnant warm air of the mine.
