The Balcões viewpoint is an ideal place to see Madeira's endemic tree species, from the Lauraceae family, such as the bay laurel (Laurus novocanariensis), the til (Ocotea foetens), the Madeiran mahogany (Persea indica), and the lily of the valley (Clethra arborea). The Balcões viewpoint offers the opportunity to encounter (and sometimes even interact with) several bird species, such as the endemic chaffinch (Fringila coelebs madeirensis).
