At the beginning of the World War II the Red Army disposed about 272 000 automobiles; Nazi Germany had about 400 000 cars. Despite the unification policy of the German military vehicle fleet, along with German cars, vehicles produced in the occupied European countries – Austria, France, Czechoslovakia – were widely used, too.
