Kirche in den Bergen Ostanatoliens. Ein erster Bau entstand unter dem Bischof Nerses im 7. Jhdt. Nerses war Armenier, geboren in Ishan und wurde der armenische Katholikos Nerses III. Weitere Bauarbeiten fanden bis ins 10.Jhdt. hinein statt, als das Gebiet schon lange zum georgischen Königreich von Tayk (Tao) gehörte. Inschriften erwähnen Giorgi I. und Bagrat IV.
