Holding back 30 billion gallons of water, the Kensico Dam was completed in 1915.  It is 300 feet high and 1830 feet long and is on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Bronx River parkway reservation.

A memorial, The Rising, to Westchester residents who perished in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States is located at the east end of the plaza.
