Bielsko-Biala - The sculpture "Acrobat" ("Akrobata")
Poland

The sculpture "Acrobat" ("Akrobata"), located in the park nearby the Bielsko-Biała City Hall, is one of the four sculptures created as a part of an international artistic project "Incydenty 2009".

The autor of this sculpture, Dariusz Fodczuk, decided to make reference to the period of intensive development of Bielsko and Biała (at that time they were separated cities), hence the figure of an acrobat standing upside down on an opened book - it's a symbol of efforts and initiative of the inhabitants of these two cities at that time and also an encouragement to present generations to continue such "breaking necks" in the future.
The inscription on the second part of this monument says:
"In the second half of the 19th century, through joint effort of the citizens, in Bielsko and Biała were introduced pioneering technical solutions. A gasworks, a power station and a municipal waterworks, moreover one of the first telephone lines in the world and the second in the Polish lands electrified trolley line were started up. The streets were lighted with lamps, a theater was build thanks to the inhabitants' donations. Dreams connected people of different faiths and nationalities together.
A tribute to all those who dared to believe in human potential."
